8783721.010 Surge Absorption Board
The Schneider 8783721.010 is the surge absorption / snubber board used in high-power Altivar ATV61 and ATV71 drives on the 690 V platform (400–500 kW range). Its function is to suppress the voltage spikes and high-frequency noise generated by thyristor commutation and IGBT switching, protecting the DC bus and the power semiconductors from transient overvoltage stress. In large-frame ATV61/71 drives, this board is a dedicated power-stage component, separate from the main control board and the IGBT gate-drive assemblies.
Supplied as a tested replacement unit, it is intended for cases where the surge absorption path has been isolated as the source of abnormal bus voltage behavior or recurrent overvoltage trips, after simpler external causes have been excluded.

Important Diagnostic Boundary: A failed surge absorption board can contribute to OSF or abnormal DC bus voltage fluctuation, but these faults are frequently caused by external factors first. Schneider’s official OBF/OSF guidance for ATV61/71 lists deceleration time too short, high-inertia loads, missing or undersized braking resistor, and mains supply surges as primary causes. The surge board should be replaced only after the deceleration profile, braking resistor configuration, and supply-side transient conditions have been reviewed.

The board becomes a legitimate suspect under the following conditions, after external causes have been ruled out:
Caution: Before ordering, confirm the deceleration ramp is not too aggressive for the load inertia, and that the braking resistor (if used) is correctly sized and connected. Replacing the surge board will not resolve OSF/OBF if the root cause is an application-side overvoltage condition.
Before ordering, confirm the following:
No. OSF is a DC bus overvoltage fault. Schneider’s guidance for ATV61/71 lists deceleration time, load inertia, braking resistor configuration, and mains transients as primary causes. The surge board is one possible contributor, not the default cause.
OSF is a DC bus overvoltage fault. OBF (overbraking) is triggered when the motor regenerates energy and the DC bus voltage reaches a braking threshold during operation. Both relate to excess bus voltage, but OBF specifically involves the braking/regeneration path.
Yes. The 8783721.010 is associated with the 690 V platform (400–500 kW) of the ATV61/71 range. It should not be assumed compatible with 400 V drives without MLFB verification.
